Agricultural output up, unemployment down in Eurasian Economic Union in January 2023

MOSCOW, 15 March (BelTA) – In January 2023 the Eurasian Economic Union registered an increase in agricultural production and a decrease in the rate of unemployment, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission Iya Malkina said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

"In January, agricultural production in the EAEU increased by 2.8% over January a year prior and amounted to an estimated $4.7 billion," Iya Malkina said.

Belarus posted the largest increase in agricultural output in January among the EAEU countries. "Belarus reported growth of 3.4%, Kazakhstan - 3.3%, Russia - 2.7% and Kyrgyzstan - 1.7%," the EEC representative said.

The EAEU recorded a slight drop in the industrial production sector in January. Industrial production in the EAEU in January this year amounted to $112.6 billion, or about 98% of the level of January a year earlier.

The unemployment rate decreased in the EAEU. "The number of unemployed registered with the employment services of the EAEU countries shrank by more than 10% in January 2023 and amounted to 884,000 people," Iya Malkina stated.
