Vera Lapko out of 2018 Luxembourg Open singles

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 62 Vera Lapko has failed to reach the 2018 Luxembourg Open semifinal, BelTA has learned.

In the quarterfinal the Belarusian lost to Switzerland's world number 47 Belinda Bencic 4-6, 1-6. Earlier, Vera Lapko beat Germany's world number 100 Carina Witthoft 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and France's world number 50 Pauline Parmentier 7-5, 6-2.

In the semifinal Belinda Bencic will meet either Ukraine's world number 66 Dayana Yastremska or Russia's world number 124 Margarita Gasparyan.

Vera Lapko continues her run in the 2018 Luxembourg Open doubles. On 18 October paired with Mandy Minella of Luxembourg the Belarusian will face Russia's Ekaterina Yashina and Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan in the quarterfinal.

In the Kremlin Cup Belarus' world number 31 Aliaksandra Sasnovich will take on UK's world number 44 Johanna Konta in the quarterfinal. In the round of Last 8 Belarus' Max Mirnyi and Philipp Oswald of Austria will play the Austrian-Croatian duo of Jurgen Melzer and Nikola Mektic.

In Belgium's Antwerp, Belarus' world number 97 Ilya Ivashko will play Italy's world number 167 Salvatore Caruso in the round of Last 16.
