MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Belarus clinched two medals on the third day of the 18th Winter Universiade in Almaty. Speed skater Marina Zuyeva topped the podium in the 3000m event, Maria Shkanova clinched the Alpine Skiing Combined silver, BelTA has learned.
Marina Zuyeva improved the result of Japan's Nana Takahashi (4:27.58) by almost nine seconds in the final heat. The Belarusian clocked 4:18.26 to claim gold. Nana Takahashi of Japan was second, with Russia's Yelena Sokhryakova taking bronze in 4:27.89.
Maria Shkanova finished second in the Alpine Skiing Combined event in 2:10.02. The Belarusian proved strongest in the Slalom, clocking 56.78 seconds. She showed the time of 1:13.24 in the Super-G component.
Anastasia Silantyeva of Russia claimed the super-combined gold in 2:08.24. Barbara Kantorova of Slovakia finished third in 2:10.35.
