Ten medals for Belarus at 2016 Canoe Sprint European Championships

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Belarus won ten medals at the 2016 ECA European Canoe Sprint and Paracanoeing Championships in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

Gold medals were clinched by Nadezhda Makarchenko and Alena Nosdreva in the women's C2 500m event. Gleb Solodukha and Alexander Volchetsky brought Belarus another gold medal in the men's 200m sprint (36,966 seconds). The Belarusians finished ahead of Germany (silver) and Russia (bronze).

Marina Litvinchuk retained the European champion title in the women's K1 5000m (22:23.450). The Belarusian finished one second ahead of Hungary's Dora Bodonyi. Russia's Uliana Salakhova claimed bronze.

The 2016 European silver went to the women's K4 500m team of Margarita Makhneva, Olga Khudenko, Nadezhda Lepeshko and Marina Litvinchuk. Belarusian brothers Andrei and Alexander Bogdanovich also claimed silver in the men's C2 1000m.

Belarus also won five bronze medals: in the men's K2 500m event (Vitaly Belko and Roman Petrushenko), the women's K2 500m (Nadezhda Lepeshko and Marina Litvinchuk), the women's K2 200m (Marina Litvinchuk and Margarita Makhneva), the men's C1 200m (Artyom Kozyr), in the men's C1 5000m (Oleg Yurenya).

Belarus with ten (three gold, two silver and five bronze) medals finished fourth in the overall standings. Hungary topped the medal table with 14 medals, including five golds.
