MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – The track-and-field athlete Usain Bolt was voted the AIPS Best Male Athlete of 2016 while the award for the Best Female Athlete went to the U.S. gymnast Simone Biles, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) press service told BelTA.
The sprinter from Jamaica won three gold awards and became a nine-time champion during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. Simone Biles from the USA won the top award in Olympic gymnastics four times during the Games in Rio.
Usain Bolt came out ahead of the swimmer Michael Phelps and the football player Cristiano Ronaldo. Apart from Simone Biles the top three female athletes of the year also include the swimmer Katinka Hosszu from Hungary and the U.S. tennis player Serena Williams.
