Sports ministry: Belarus' tourist infrastructure will be ready to welcome MINSK 2019 guests

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Belarus' tourist infrastructure will be ready to welcome the guests of the 2nd European Games that are due in the Belarusian capital in 2019, Belarus' Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk told the media at the international spring fair of tourism services Leisure 2018 on 4 April, BelTA has learned.

“In the run-up to such a big sports event, we need to check the readiness of our tourism industry, what we will be able to offer to people who will be coming here next year,” said Sergei Kovalchuk.

The minister stressed that guests of the 2nd European Games would attend not only sports competitions. They would also like to get acquainted with the tourist opportunities of Belarus. According to him, the country still has time to get ready for foreign tourists. “We need to make sure that our culture and the beauty of the Belarusian nature is presented at a decent level in any corner of the country,” he added.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports. As many as 206 medal events will be held in 23 sport disciplines. The competitions will take place at 12 sport venues. The Games are expected to attract about 4,000 athletes, 2,000 coaches and other representatives of official delegations from 50 European national Olympic committees. Besides, Belarus will welcome about 650 international and 410 national sport judges, about 1,000 representatives of foreign mass media, heads of European sport federations and agencies, workers of the EOC headquarters, heads of European NOCs, and high-rankling officials from a number of countries.
