Shimanovich, Tsurkin clinch gold medals at Swim Open Stockholm

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – Belarusian swimmers Ilya Shimanovich and Evgeny Tsurkin won at the traditional international tournament Swim Open Stockholm, BelTA informs.

Evgeny Tsurkin touched in first in 52.37 seconds in the 100m butterfly. In the 50m butterfly Evgeny Tsurkin came in fourth, while third was Egor Dodolev of Belarus.

Ilya Shimanovich claimed two medals in Stockholm. He clocked 27.31 seconds to win the 50m breaststroke event. Second was Lithuania's Giedrius Titenis (27.39 seconds). Bronze went to Fabian Schwingenschlogl of Germany (27.58 seconds). In the 100m breaststroke Ivan Shimanovich won silver in 1:00.1. Gold went to 2016 Olympic medalist Anton Chupkov of Russia (59.61 seconds).

In the 200m breaststroke final Ilya Shimanovich renewed Belarus' record clocking 2:12.89 seconds to finish sixth.

Taking part in the competitions in Stockholm were 13 more Belarusian swimmers who are gearing up for the Belarusian swimming championship in Brest in May and the European Swimming Championships in Glasgow, Scotland on 1-12 August.
