Sasnovich bows out of Wimbledon

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia 6-7, 0-6 in the fourth round at Wimbledon, BelTA learned.

The Belarusian was off to a god start. She was leading 3:0, 5:2 but was not able to keep this advantage. At the end of the first set Jelena Ostapenko (No. 12) started acting more aggressive on offense. After losing the first set Aliaksandra Sasnovich failed to show the same level of game.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich began the tournament with a shock upset of the eighth seed and two-time champion Petra Kvitova. She then breezed past Taylor Townsend 6-0 6-4 to advance to the third round where she beat Australia's Daria Gavrilova 6-3 6-1.

In the mixed doubles Belarusian former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka and Jamie Murray saw off Czech pair Roman Jbavy and Lucie Hradecka 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-4. In the second round, they will face the seven-seeded Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Colombian Robert Farah. Belarusian tennis veteran Max Mirnyi and Czech Kveta Peschke (seeded No. 13) will play Britons Harriet Dart and Jay Clarke in the mixed doubles second round.
