MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus claimed a victory at the start of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian leading player is seeded 12th among 96 participants in the tournament. In the first round Vladimir Samsonov took a solid win over Yang Xinyu of Azerbaijan 4-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-3, 11-2). Alexander Khanin lost 0-4 in the first round after qualifying for the main draw.
In the women's event Viktoriya Pavlovich of Belarus clinched the first-round victory against Aikaterini Toliou of Greece 4-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-5, 11-9). Alina Orlovskaya lost her encounter 0-4 (6-11, 2-11, 3-11, 8-11).
The ITTF World Table Tennis Championships will run in Dusseldorf through 5 June.
