Sabalenka progresses in China

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 20 defeated World No.6 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 to advance to the third round of the 2018 Wuhan Open in China, BelTA informs.

In the opener the Belarusian battled through Spain's world number 22 Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. Aryna Sabalenka will next play either Germany's world number 3 Angelique Kerber or U.S. world number 18 Madison Keys.

Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the world number 32, took a solid win at the start of the tournament in China seeing off Belgium's world number 15 Elise Mertens 7-6, 7-6. In the second round she lost 2-6, 2-6 to World No.51 Monica Puig from Puerto Rico.

In the women's doubles event the Belarusian-Latvian tandem of Aryna Sabalenka and Jelena Ostapenko will take on the Belarusian-Japanese duet of Lidziya Marozava and Shuko Aoyama for the berth in the quarterfinal.
