MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - The election of Olympic champion Nellie Kim as Vice President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) is a great success for the Belarusian sport, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Maksim Ryzhenkov told media on 19 October, BelTA has learned.
“It is hard to make part of the executive staff of any international sports federation. This requires high standing among counterparts. This is a big success. The National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the Belarusian Gymnastics Association developed an election program, held high-level talks. This helped Nellie Kim to take up this senior position,” Maksim Ryzhenkov noted.
According to him, head of the Belarusian Gymnastics Association Yelena Skripel and coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team Irina Leparskaya already met with new FIG President Morinari Watanabe in Japan, which is hosting the FIG Congress, and discussed the participation of Belarusian coaches and athletes in various international camps and the possibility of holding major international tournaments in Belarus.
