Russia's Kazan to bid for 3rd European Games 2023

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Russia's Kazan will submit an application to the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to host the 3rd European Games in 2023. The decision was approved by the interdepartmental commission for international sports tournaments in Russia, BelTA has learned.

The capital of Tatarstan, which previously hosted many major international competitions including the Summer University Games in 2013, needs to formalize all necessary documents by 28 February. The venue of the 3rd European Games will be announced before the launch of the games in Minsk in June this year. Kazan will not have to invest heavily as it had built the necessary sports infrastructure for the University Games in 2013.

Earlier the interdepartmental commission gave the green light to Russia bidding for the UEFA Champions League Final in 2021 (St. Petersburg), the Summer University Games in 2023 (Ekaterinburg), the CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour leg, 2022 European championships and 2023 world championships in kayak, canoe and paracanoe (Moscow). The issues regarding the organization of the 2020 European Weightlifting Championships will receive additional consideration.
