Russia draw with Finland at Christmas ice hockey tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Russia and Finland opened the second day of the 13th Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament for the Prize of the President of Belarus with a 4-4 tie on 5 January.

The Russians showed a much more confident game after a 0-12 defeat from Slovakia on 4 January. After two periods Team Russia led 3-0. The Finns, however, managed to close up the gap and even retook the lead early in the final stanza, 4-3. The action-packed battle ended up in a 4-4 draw. In the opener the Finns routed Germany 11-2.

Today Germany will face Slovakia (17.00 Minsk time).

Team Belarus will play the Balkans team at 19.00 on 5 January. In the opening game the Belarusians took a solid win over the UAE, 7-3. Switzerland opened the tournament with a 13-2 victory against the Balkans.

The winners of the two groups will face each other on 7 January, with the runners-up competing for the bronze.
