Road cycling routes for Second European Games discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – The road cycling routes for the 2019 Second European Games were discussed by EOC Chief Expert for Sport Asimakis Asimakopoulos and UEC Technical Delegate Vladimiros Petsas in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press service of the fund of the Directorate of the Second European Games.

The experts studied the proposed road cycling routes from the viewpoint of their athletic element, broadcasting attractiveness and the possibility to include the main landmarks of Minsk. Special attention was focused on road safety and the quality of road covering, the possibility to erect barriers, block streets and provide access to the venue for emergency services. Asimakis Asimakopoulos and Vladimiros Petsas were also shown the cycling ground at Minsk Arena that will host track cycling competitions. The specialists assessed the quality of covering and other technical features of the track. Twenty-two medal events in cycling will be held at the Second European Games.

The velodrome of Minsk Arena will host the final stage of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup on 19-21 January 2018. The Belarusian capital played host to the 2009 European Track Championships and the 2013 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. The International Cycling Union praised the organization of the competitions.
