Prize money for European Individual Chess Championship 2017 at €100,000

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – The prize pot for this year's European Individual Chess Championship in Minsk will total €100,000, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Chess Federation.

The official opening ceremony of the championship is scheduled to take place in the Palace of Sports on 29 May, with the first games to be played on 30 May. The European Individual Chess Championship will be played in 11-round Swiss system. The winner will get €20,000.

The Belarusian national team will comprise Sergei Zhigalko, Vladislav Kovalev, Kirill Stupak, Aleksei Aleksandrov, Andrei Zhigalko.

Minsk will gather more than 400 athletes from 40 countries, including 177 grand masters, 78 international masters, 57 FIDE masters. Taking part in the competitions will be Dmitry Andreikin of Russia, David Navara of the Czech Republic, Baadur Jobava of Georgia.

The 1st FIDE World Cadets Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2017 will take place in Minsk on 1-5 June. Taking part in the competitions will be 650 representatives of 24 countries. The Minsk chess forum will be attended by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The championships are organized by the Sports and Tourism Ministry, the National Olympic Committee, Minsk City Hall, the Presidential Sports Club, and the Belarusian Chess Federation.
