Pettersson scores twice as Dinamo Minsk top SKA 5-4

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) - Fredrik Pettersson scored twice in his KHL debut for Dinamo Minsk to help the Bisons to a 5-4 win against SKA St. Petersburg at Minsk Arena on 3 January.

The Belarusians opened the scoring in the 6th minute with Fredrik Pettersson's first on the night. Then, Dinamo kicked off a four-goal burst in the middle stanza to take a 5-1 lead, with Aaron Palushaj, Fredrik Pettersson, Andrei Stepanov and Sergei Drozd among scorers. In the third, however, the Bisons faced a serious prospect of losing up what seemed to be an unbreakable advantage for them.

Ilya Kovalchuk pulled one back for SKA on a power play late in the second. Pavel Datsyuk started turning the game otherwise with his goal early in the third. Yevgeny Dadonov added one more just before Yegor Yakovlev made it a one-goal game with seven minutes remaining.

Ben Scrivens proved impenetrable in the final minutes to lead the home team to a sixth consecutive win.

SKA, a KHL leader, suffered its third loss in a row.

With 76 points after 43 games, Dinamo Minsk sit fifth in the Western Conference. The Bisons will be back in action on 5 January as they host Severstal Cherepovets.
