Over 500 football fans cross Belarus' border en-route to Russia in last 24 hours

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) - More than 500 football fans heading for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia crossed the border of Belarus in the past 24 hours, Anton Bychkovsky, the official representative of the Belarusian State Border Committee, told BelTA.

“Belarus welcomed 529 people during the period from 0.00 of 13 June till 0.00 of 14 June. More than 800 fans have taken advantage of the visa-free travel opportunity and crossed the border of Belarus. Most of them are from Argentina, Peru and Mexico and also from Honduras, Nicaragua and even the Comoros Islands,” Anton Bychkovsky said.

Russia is hosting the FIFA World Cup from 14 June to 15 July. As BelTA reported earlier, on 29 May Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on the rules of entry of foreign nationals and stateless persons attending international sport events. In line with the document, foreign fans will be able to travel through Belarus visa-free during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia from 4 June to 25 July.
