Olympics 2016: Maria Mamoshuk wins wrestling silver

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – Maria Mamoshuk of Belarus claimed the Olympic freestyle -63kg wrestling silver in her final bout against Japan's Risako Kawai, BelTA has learned.

The 21-year-old Japanese wrestler beat the Belarusian 6-0 to gave Japan a fourth wrestling gold at Rio 2016.

The Olympic debutant Maria Mamoshuk started her Rio campaign with a win over Kazakhstan's Yekaterina Larionova 8-2. The Belarusian then saw off Sweden's Katarina Henna Johansson 7-2 and defeated American Yelena Pirozhkova 3-2.

Maria Mamoshuk claimed gold at the 2016 European Wrestling Championships and bronze at the First European Games in 2015. It was the first Olympic -63kg final for the Belarusian athlete. The Rio 2016 bronze medals in the women's -63kg class went to Poland's Monika Michalik and Kazakhstan's Yekaterina Larionova.
