Mirnyi out of US Open men's doubles event

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Belarus' Max Mirnyi and his partner Treat Huey of the Philippines made an early exit in the US Open men's doubles opener, BelTA has learned.

The ninth-seeded Belarusian-Filipino duo fell to the Spanish-Dominican tandem of Nicolas Almagro and Victor Estrella Burgos 4-6, 4-6.

In the mixed doubles opener the 39-year-old Belarusian and his partner Hao-Ching Chan of China, seeded 5th, beat Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik and Finland's Henri Kontinen 6-4, 6-4.

Max Mirnyi is a two-time winner of the US Open men's doubles event: in 2000 and 2002. The Belarusian tennis player has also won three mixed doubles competitions: in 1998, 2007, and 2013.

The US Open 2016 will be over on 11 September.
