Mirnyi into Generali Open semifinal

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Austria's Philipp Oswald have reached the Generali Open semifinal in Kitzbuhel, Austria, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian-Austrian duo lost the first set 4-6 to the Polish-Serbian tandem of Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic. Max Mirnyi and Philipp Oswald grabbed the win on a tie break 7-6 (7-3) and made it 10-6 in the final set. It took them an hour and 34 minutes to celebrate the victory. In the opener the Belarusian-Austrian pair beat Gerald Melzer and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn of Austria 7-5, 6-3. The Belarusian-Chilean tandem Andrei Vasilevsky and Hans Podlipnik Castillo will face Argentine's Horacio Zeballos and Julio Peralta of Chile for a place in the semifinal.

In the Citi Open in Washington world number 121 Arina Sobolenko of Belarus will take on Sabine Lisicki of Germany (World No.190) in the last 16. In Lexington Vera Lapko (241) battled through world number 270 Jennifer Elie of the United States 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the last 32. The Belarusian will next face New Zealand's Erin Routliffe (1164).
