Minsk to host European 10,000m Cup

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Minsk will host the European 10,000m Cup for the first time. The competitions will be held on 10 June, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Athletics Federation.

It is expected that some 80 athletes from 19 countries will enter to contest in this year's event. Among them will be runners from Bulgaria, the UK, Germany, Greece, Israel, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, France, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.

The Belarusian team will comprise Vladislav Pryamov, Stepan Rogovtsov, Sergei Platonov, Olga Mazurenok, Svetlana Kudelich, Lyudmila Lyakhovich, Nina Savina, Anastasia Ivanova and Tatyana Stefanenko.

The competitions will be attended by representatives of the European Association of Athletics Federations led by President Svein Arne Hansen.

The European 10,000 Cup has been regularly held since 1997. The 20th edition of the tournament was won by Daniele Meucci of Italy (28:24.71) and Esma Aydemir of Turkey (33:33.38) in Mersin, Turkey in 2016. The team overall standings were topped by Italy (men) and the UK (women).
