Minsk to host ETU European Olympic Categories Championships

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – About 300 athletes from 40 countries will take part in the G-Ranking ETU European Olympic Categories Championships in Minsk, Chairman of the Belarusian Taekwondo Federation Boris Nagornyi told the media on 24 August, BelTA has learned.

“The Minsk Sport Center Uruchye will host the G-Ranking ETU European Olympic Categories Championships for the first time. It is expected that about 300 athletes from 40 countries will gather in the Belarusian capital for the tournament. The competitions were initially scheduled for September, but then they were postponed for 26-29 October,” said Boris Nagorny. He added that the program will also include the 6th European Para Taekwondo Championships that will feature more than 200 athletes.

Belarus' Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Baraulya took note of a great popularity of taekwondo in Belarus. “Over 7,000 people do taekwondo in the country,” he said. In his words, the G-Ranking ETU European Olympic Categories Championships will be a great opportunity to see young athletes ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
