Liubou Charkashyna reelected President of FIG Athletes Commission

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Liubou Charkashyna of Belarus has been reelected President of the FIG Athletes Commission, BelTA has learned.

The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in rhythmic gymnastics was elected to head the commission in February 2017, replacing Jani Tanskanen, the 1997 World Horizontal Bar champion. Liubou Charkashyna was reelected for four years.

“I am happy that the commission is fully staffed. Athletes are the face of our sport, they must be heard not only in technical committees but also in the executive committee. I am grateful for the trust, as one year was not enough to grasp the full extent of the problems,” she said.

Nuno Merino of Portugal (trampoline) was elected Deputy President of the FIG Athletes Commission. Dora Hegyi of Hungary (aerobic gymnastics) became Secretary of the commission.
