ISU plans to change format of world competitions

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The International Skating Union (ISU) plans to change the format of the world championships, Chairman of the ISU Technical Committee Alexander Kibalko said at BelTA's press center on 20 March.

When asked if Belarus can get the right to host the 2021 ISU World Speed Skating Championships, taking into account the tournaments held at the Minsk Arena stadium, the chairman of the ISU Technical Committee said that the chances are good. “In June Spain's Seville will host the ISU Congress to consider the new composition of the organization and proposals to change the format of the world championships. There is a proposal to make one tournament. I thinkб together with the public and mass mediaб we will come to an agreement at the congress. If we decide on one tournament, many countries will be bidding to host it in 2021, and Minsk has good chances to host it,” Alexander Kibalko said.

The chairman of the ISU Technical Committee stressed that the International Skating Union supports Belarus in its intention to host big international competitions. Minsk Arena has already successfully hosted the ISU European Speed Skating Championships and the ISU World Figure Skating Championships. The FISU World University Speed Skating Championships will be held in Minsk on 21-25 March.
