HC Yunost Minsk take OT win over Sweden's Vaxjo Lakers in CHL

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Jesse Niinimaki scored 3:24 into overtime to hand HC Yunost Minsk a 4-3 home win against Sweden's Vaxjo Lakers in the Champions Hockey League on 23 August, BelTA has learned.

Anton Yeliseyenko, Daniel Corso and Alexander Kogalev also added to the offence of the Belarusian team.

Adam Brodecki, Pontus Netterberg and Robert Rosen scored for Vaxjo Lakers.

Yunost Minsk took a 4-3 win over BK Mlada Boleslav in its CHL opener.

Group L standings are as follows: Yunost Minsk – 5 points (two games played), Vaxjo Lakers – 4 (3), and BK Mlada Boleslav – 2 (3).

In September Yunost Minsk will have road games against BK Mlada Boleslav (on 6 September) and Vaxjo Lakers (9 September). The Belarusian team needs just one more point to reach the playoff.

Two best teams from each of 16 groups will advance to the CHL playoff stage. Belarus' Neman Grodno made his debut in CHL last year. The Belarusian team failed to reach the playoff, finishing third in the group stage. Last year the winner was Swedish Frolunda HC.
