HC Dinamo Minsk edge Ak Bars in shootout in Riga

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – HC Dinamo Minsk beat Ak Bars Kazan 3-2 in a shootout and got a chance to play for the third place at the Latvian Railways Cup in Riga, BelTA has learned.

Belarus scored twice in the final stanza after falling behind 0-2 in the first two periods. Evgeny Kovyrshin scored on a powerplay at first and put in his second in the 58th minute. After a goalless overtime, the teams faced each other in a shootout, where Egor Sharangovich and Rob Klinkhammer claimed the victory for the Belarusian team.

Dinamo goaltender Jhonas Enroth was named the best player of the match.

On 17 August Dinamo Minsk will play a third-place game at the Latvian Railways Cup.

The teams standings are as follows: Dinamo Riga – 6 points (2 games), Ak Bars – 4 (3), Lokomotiv – 3 (2), Dinamo Minsk – 2 (3).

The Latvian Railways Cup was first held in 2009. HC Dinamo Minsk have played in the tournament for five times.

The Latvian Railways Cup is the final pre-season tournament for the Belarusian team. The Bisons will open the 10th KHL season against Jokerit Helsinki at home on 23 August.
