MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Volunteer personnel of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 will be given first aid training. The relevant agreement was signed by the Directorate of the 2nd European Games 2019 and the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross in Minsk on 1 June, BelTA has learned.
As part of the agreement volunteers will be better prepared to provide medical assistance in the run-up to and during the actual games. The awareness of volunteers about first aid procedures and healthcare will be raised as well.
Director of the Directorate of the 2nd European Games 2019 Georgy Katulin and Secretary General of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross Olga Mychko took part in the signing ceremony.
According to Olga Mychko, volunteers will be trained using standard programs developed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The curriculum includes 16 hours of theoretical studies and practice on children and adult mannequins. Makeup will be used to imitate cuts and traumas. “In addition to practical skills we are going to train proper responses and psychosocial support. We will train volunteers how to correctly respond to various situations and how to stay safe themselves,” said the secretary general.
Volunteers will have to take an exam at the end. If they pass, they will be given international certificates.
The 2nd European Games are scheduled to take place at 12 sport venues in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete for over 200 sets of medals in 15 sports. The games are also expected to attract about 650 international and 410 national sport judges, about 1,000 representatives of foreign mass media, heads of European sport federations and agencies, representatives of the EOC headquarters, heads of European NOCs, and high-rankling officials from a number of countries.
