Finland secure second win at Christmas tournament in Minsk

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) - Finland secured a second win at the 12th Christmas International Ice Hockey Tournament for the Prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus on 5 January, BelTA has learned.

On 5 January in the first match of the preliminary round in Group B Finland whitewashed Sweden in the Scandinavian derby 10:1 (5:0, 3:0, 2:1) on the small arena of Chizhovka Arena. In the second match of Group B Germany will take on Russia.

In Group A two matches will take place at the main arena of Chizhovka Arena. Firstly, Switzerland will play with the U.A.E. In the second match of Group A the Belarus President Team will play Slovakia. In the first match of the preliminary round Slovakia topped the U.A.E. 14:3, and Belarus beat Switzerland 9:7.

The preliminary round will end on 6 January.

On 7 January the two second-placed teams will play in the bronze-medal match (13.00). The first-placed teams will advance to the gold-medal game (19.00). Both matches will take place at Chizhovka Arena.

The team of the President of Belarus is the eight-time winner of the Christmas international tournament (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014). Team Russia is a three-time champion (2007, 2011 and 2015).

The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation (BIHF), the Minsk City Hall and the President's Sports Club.
