FAI World Helicopter Championship in Minsk to gather more than ten countries

BREST, 1 February (BelTA) – The 16th FAI World Helicopter Championship, which is due in Belarus on 24-30 July, is expected to welcome pilots from more than ten countries. The news was announced at the meeting of the joint presidium of the DOSAAF central councils of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

“This milestone event will coincide with the opening of an air club in Minsk,” said Chairman of Belarus' DOSAAF central council Ivan Dyrman.

The tournament will open at a new training air base in Lipki. The competitions will be held in Borovaya airfield. The organizers expect representatives of at least 11 countries for the worlds. The final list of applications will be drawn up in June. Pilots will compete in such categories as cargo unloading, slalom and navigation using Mi-2 and Robinson 44 helicopters.

Belarus DOSAAF is going to field six major crews. By the way, Belarusian pilots are among the favorites in the upcoming world cup. They regularly make it to the top three at international competitions.

In July last year Belarus hosted a test world helicopter championship featuring more than 20 crews from five countries.
