EOC experts visit Belarus to assess Minsk's preparedness one year ahead of European Games

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - The European Olympic Committees' Coordination Commission gave a positive assessment of the preparations being undertaken in Minsk, MEGOC Deputy CEO Anatoly Kotov told a press conference while commenting on the meeting between representatives of the European Olympic Committees (EOC), the EOC Coordination Commission (CoCom) and the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) in Minsk on 19-20 June, BelTA has learned.

Anatoly Kotov noted that since the previous meeting with the EOC CoCom several months ago the MEGOC has made good progress in the preparations across a number of areas. “First of all, they assess us in the sport area, but there are still about 40 more where we are undertaking organizational work, and we are pleased that the EOC experts, the Spanish broadcasting company, our IT partners gave a high opinion of Minsk's preparedness one year before the start of the European Games,” Anatoly Kotov said.

He stressed that the program of the European Games is practically ready. More than 200 sets of awards will be distributed during the European Games in Minsk, and the competitions in 10 sports will offer qualification opportunities for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. “Together with the members of the EOC Coordination Commission, who are visiting Minsk these days, we have tried to make sure that all the events are interesting for leading athletes. Not all sports that we wanted to include in the forum in 2019 will be actually featured,” Anatoly Kotov said. According to him, elite athletes will compete in each of the sports at the European Games which will attract more fans to th event.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports: badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling(freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women's wrestling), cycling (track and road), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe competitions), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football.
