Domracheva regrets Bjorndalen missing out on 2018 Olympics

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – It is hard for Darya Domracheva to believe that her husband, eight-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjorndalen, will not be competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, BelTA learned from the Russian sports channel Match TV.

“It is still hard for me to believe that Ole Einar will skip the Olympics. For me, just like for every other genuine biathlon fan, seeing him compete at the Olympics would be a dream. Did he take it easy? Come on, how can you take it easy. He is certainly upset, we are both upset,” the Belarusian biathlete said.

In her words, Ole Einar Bjorndalen will be on Norway's biathlon team at the 2018 IBU Open European Championships in Italy.

It was reported on 15 January that the 43-year-old Norwegian athlete did not qualify for Pyeongchang. “Bjorndalen missed out on selection for the team. Prior to that, we had thorough discussions with Norway's Biathlon Associations on team selection,” the Norwegian National Olympic Committee noted.

The announcement of Norway's biathlon team Olympic roster came as a shock to the sports community. To make Norway's team for the 2018 Olympics, Bjorndalen had to finish in the top 6 once or make it to the top 12 twice, but he did not manage to place higher than 18th.
