Domracheva named first Star Ambassador of 2nd European Games

MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) - The Directorate of the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019 announced the launch of the Star Ambassadors of the 2nd European Games information project, BelTA informs.

On 24 July four-time Olympic champion, Hero of Belarus Darya Domracheva was named Star Ambassador of the 2nd European Games. The Star Ambassador of the 2nd European Games certificate was presented to the Belarusian outstanding athlete by Director of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) Georgy Katulin in a ceremony in the Hall of Olympic Glory at the National Olympic Committee.

He noted that the project is designed to develop and promote a positive image of the 2nd European Games in Belarus and abroad, to attract public attention to the games, to drum up the interest of people in Belarus and other countries in the forthcoming multi-sport event, popularize the sports included in the 2nd European Games program. The Star Ambassador title will be awarded to outstanding sport, art and cultural personalities from Belarus and other countries.

Darya Domracheva said that it is a great honor for her to become the first Star Ambassador of the forthcoming event in Minsk. In her words, new sport stars will shine at the 2nd European Games and will later recall the Belarusian capital as a city where they achieved their first big successes.

According to Georgy Katulin, the circus artists Zapashny brothers will be the next recipients of the Star Ambassador of the 2nd European Games title.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 15 sports. The competitions in 10 sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
