MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The renewed Dinamo Stadium in Minsk was solemnly reopened on 21 June. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko took part in the opening ceremony, BelTA has learned.

The head of state presented a symbolic key to the stadium to members of the national track-and-field athletics team and football players. Belarus' national anthem was performed during the ceremony, with spectators seated on the grandstands of the new stadium singing it, too.

The organizers prepared a large-scale music and sport program for the event. Popular Belarusian singers and performers, the Belarusian Defense Ministry orchestra performed for the spectators before the actual opening ceremony.

Representatives of various kinds of sports, which will feature in the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, and volunteers took part in the opening ceremony. Students of the Belarusian State Physical Culture University carried a large state flag of Belarus into the field of the stadium.

The music and sport show featured creative acts dedicated to sport and Belarus, exhibition performances by athletes, and a music program by prominent artistes.

The first field-and-track relay race was also launched as part of the opening ceremony. Students from track-and-field athletics schools from all the regions of the country took part in it. A football match was part of the program, too.

Fireworks will be arranged after the end of the sport program.

The renovated Dinamo Stadium will be used for training Belarusian track-and-field athletics teams, football teams, for hosting international and national competitions, entertainment events, cultural events, and for providing physical training services to individuals.

Massive changes have been implemented inside and outside the country's prime sport venue in the last four years. The roof now covers over 75% of the grandstands. It is made of light aluminum sheets and represents one of the most complicated components of the structure. Modern sound systems and CCTV solutions have been installed under the roof. The Olympic flame bowl, which was originally installed for the 1980 Olympics, has been moved behind the right gate. The lighting system has been changed. Old towers have been replaced with new ones, with additional LED lamps installed under the roof. Many engineering solutions are unique. But the key changes have been implemented into the sport core of the stadium. The stadium can now host top-level field-and-track athletics events. It can seat about 22,000 spectators.
