Dinamo Minsk open KHL season on sour note

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – HC Dinamo Minsk kicked off the 10th season of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with a 1-6 home loss to Jokerit Helsinki, BelTA has learned.

Too many penalties on Belarus' side predestined a disappointing outcome for the Bisons. Young Eeli Tolvanen of Jokerit led the way with the first hat-trick of the season in his KHL debut and turned Dinamo goaltender Gordie Dwyer's first game into a nightmare.

Another Jokerit debutant, Niklas Jensen, scored a goal and an assist, including the game-winner, while Brian O'Neill opened the scoring and had two assists of his own.

Quinton Howden, a new signing of Dinamo, scored the Bisons' only goal midway through the second period in front of Minsk's 13,793 fans in attendance.

The Bisons will next play Vitayz Moscow Region on 25 August.
