Designer: Ornaments on Team Belarus outfits for Pyeongchang 2018 symbolize good luck

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - Ornaments on the Team Belarus outfits for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang symbolize good luck and will work as amulets, the collection designer Lyudmila Labkova told the media, BelTA has learned.

“This ornament patten is unusual. I used the ornament pattern which symbolizes the mother and works as an amulet and added the elements which mean good luck, success and productivity. Ornaments in the Belarusian culture have very clear meanings, and I wanted to use the ornaments which will draw good luck for our Olympic team. This all is very important,” said Lyudmila Labkova.

The designer also took note of the importance of the placement of the ornament patterns on the outfits. For example, t-shirts have them at the waist while jackets at the shoulder line. "Not only does this emphasize the athletic shape of sportsmen but will also work as amulets," she noted.

As regards the colors, Lyudmila Labkova thinks that grey is the winter color for Belarusians. The national pattern resembling a snowflake fits very well.

Work on the Olympic collection was intense. Samples were made within two weeks. “I worked with a Bellegprom team. The concept was mine, the execution was by Bellegprom enterprises,” the designer said.

The project involved the best enterprises of the Belarusian light industry: Komintern, Svitanak, Eliz, Belwest. Bright women's accessories that have become part and parcel of the collection were made by the Galanteya factory. Soon they will be available on sale in stores across the country.

Lyudmila Labkova added that the outfits will be further developed. “I think there will be no radical changes, but some minor alterations might be added,” the designer noted.

As it was reported, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was shown the collections of two Belarusian fashion design team: Lyudmila Labkova together with the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom and Yulia Latushkina together with the sewing studio of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate.

A decision was made in favor of the outfits designed by Lyudmila Labkova. Alexander Lukashenko gave an instruction to make the uniforms available on sale in the biggest department stores in the country.
