CIS Council on Physical Education and Sport to meet in Minsk 7-8 June

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – The CIS Council on Physical Education and Sport will hold its meeting in Minsk on 7-8 June BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The agenda will include 12 issues. The Council will take stock of the progress in the implementation of the state policy on physical education and sport in Belarus and the CIS member states, discuss the implementation of the action plans on the physical education and sport development strategy in the CIS and the national sports promotion programs through 2020. Participants of the meeting will consider the draft action plan for 2018-2020 on the implementation of the abovementioned program.

The Council will discuss the draft provisions on the status of the basic CIS organization in the area of physical education and sport for the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism. Participants of the meeting will share the best practices in ensuring security of sport events, consider issues related to the development of physical education and recuperation activities in the rural area, access to sport facilities and new forms of their efficient use.

The meeting will also highlight cooperation in training and providing rehabilitation to athletes of the CIS member states, interaction between the Council and the UN institutions.

The meeting will also consider the progress made in the preparations for the 1st Festival of CIS National Sports and Games which is due to take place in Ulyanovsk on 11-16 August 2017. It is expected that taking part in the festival will be more than 1,000 athletes from different countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

The program of the sports forum will feature belt wrestling, kettlebell lifting, draughts, sambo, tug-of-war, national archery, lapta, mini hockey, gorodki, and mass wrestling. Many countries have prepared exhibition shows of their authentic national sports.

The 1st Festival of CIS National Sports and Games will include 70 medal events.

The festival will also offer a wide cultural and business program.
