Chizhovka Arena to host judo competitions ahead of 2nd European Games

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – The multi-purpose entertainment and sports center Chizhovka Arena will launch its final stage of preparations for the 2nd European Games on 1 May, Manager for Sport Facilities at the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee Oleg Kuchmasov told the media on 21 March, BelTA has learned.

One of the biggest venues of the forthcoming multi-sport forum will play host to judo competitions featuring 400 athletes. Chizhovka Arena hosted test competitions, European Judo Open, in August 2018. According to Oleg Kuchmasov, the organization of the tournament was hailed by representatives of the European Judo Union. “The rehearsal went well in August 2018. A lot is already ready for the games. We need to work a bit more on zoning the arena into training area, the awarding and competition zones. It was decided that a training camp for young judokas from all over the world will be organized at the arena during the 2nd European Games. The European Judo Union will cover all travel and accommodation expenses of young athletes. From 1 May works will be launched to install LED panels and necessary banners at the arena,” he said.

Chizhovka Arena will also host karate competitions on 29-30 June after the judo tournament.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports.
