MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Fed Cup World Group Semifinal between Belarus and Switzerland will take place in Chizhovka Arena on 22-23 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Tennis Federation.
The multi-purpose facility hosted its maiden Fed Cup event in February when Belarus defeated the Netherlands 4-1. Belarus' national team includes Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Aryna Sabalenka, Olga Govortsova and Vera Lapko headed by the captain Eduard Dubrov.
Although Switzerland is the favorite for the upcoming match, the Belarusians promise to put up a fight in front of the home crowd. Switzerland defeated France 4:1 in the first round. Switzerland was represented by Timea Bacsinszky, Belinda Bencic, Viktorija Golubic and the legendary Martina Hingis.
Currently Belarus is the 5th in the Fed Cup rankings following their Swiss rivals.
In the second semifinal the U.S. will host the defending champions from the Czech Republic. The semifinal winners will meet in the final match on 11-12 November.
