CAS postpones its ruling on Belarus canoe and kayak team

MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has informed the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus on another postponing of its decision on the Belarusian Senior Men's Canoe and Kayak National Team, BelTA learned from Belarus NOC Secretary General Anatoly Kotov.

“The National Olympic Committee received one more notification from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, saying that the court postpones its ruling on the suspension of the Belarusian men's canoe and kayak national team from the 2016 Rio Games for another 20 days, until 27 January. We express astonishment at the news, believing that the time that has passed since the hearings is enough to make the final verdict on the case which looks absolutely clear for us,” Anatoly Kotov noted.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus' Senior Men's Canoe and Kayak National Team was preparing for the Rio Olympics in France when they had a surprise visit and a search by police. The ICF accused Belarus team of the use of banned substances and imposed a one-year ban. Thus the team was not able to participate in the 2016 Summer Games. Belarus applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. The CAS refused to fast-track the proceedings. The hearing was held in Switzerland on 7 November.
