Call on Belarusian athletes to focus on physical fitness ahead of Minsk European Games

BREST, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes should be in their best physical conditions ahead of the 2nd European Games, Belarus' Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Baraulya said at a board meeting of the sport and tourism department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

“There are two important tasks. Firstly, it is the preparation for the 2nd European Games. We have to perform well. The main thing is the quality of performance. It is necessary to create conditions for athletes to train and recover so that they could be in an optimal shape, maximally focused and supported,” Belarus' Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Baraulya said. He added that another important aspect is the preparations for the 32ndSummer Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

The program of the European Games in Minsk will include 15 sports and representatives of Brest Oblast can compete in 12 of them. The list of candidates from Brest Oblast includes 24 athletes representing acrobatics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, spring canoe, judo, athletics, shooting, archery and beach soccer.

“Athletes are trained by highly qualified coaches,” said Viktor Selivonik, deputy head of the sports and tourism department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

According to the preliminary data, the list of candidates for the Tokyo Olympics from Brest Oblast comprises 46 athletes in 16 sports.
