Belarusian players out of U.S. Open qualifiers

MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – All the Belarusian players completed their run in the U.S. Open qualifying round, BelTA has learned.

World number 188 Vera Lapko lost to Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic (World No.121) 3-6, 4-6 in the second qualifying game. Her fellow compatriot Arina Sobolenko (110) lost the opener to Camilla Rosatello of Italy (243) 7-5, 4-6, 3-6.

In the men's singles qualifying round Ilya Ivashko of Belarus (205) lost to Argentina's Facundo Bagnis (109) 2-6, 0-6. Vladimir Ignatik (166) lost to Australia's Akira Santillan (171) 3-6, 2-6. His teammate Egor Gerasimov (123) lost to U.S. Mitchell Krueger (198) 5-7, 4-6.

Wins in three qualifying games are needed to advance to the U.S Open 2017 main draw which kicks off on 28 August.

World number 88 Aleksandra Sasnovich is the only one to represent Belarus in the tournament's main draw. Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the competitions due to an ongoing family situation.
