Belarusian Olympians tested in WADA-accredited laboratories ahead of Rio

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – In the run-up to Rio the Belarusian Olympians are being tested in WADA-accredited laboratories, Director of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) Denis Muzhzhukhin told media, BelTA has learned.

“All future participants of the summer games, who already earned a license, are being tested in WADA accredited laboratories. Starting June, the process entered into an active phase, and I would like to note that our Olympians are making us happy. None has tested positive,” he noted.

According to Denis Muzhzhukhin, nobody can give a 100% guarantee. In accordance with the WADA recommendations, testing should be better done not on the eve of competitions, but in the most dangerous periods of training. NADA gets plans of training of the national teams from the sport ministries and monitors the athletes, and analyzes their results at tournaments,” Denis Muzhzhukhin said.

According to him, athletics, weightlifting and cycling are viewed as the group of risk in Belarus. “These sports are under our control,” he added.

With regard to the recent reports of positive samples by Belarusian weightlifters Marina Shkermankova, Dina Sazanovets and Evgeny Zhernosek, Denis Muzhzhukhin admitted that he was very disappointed. There is a risk our weightlifting team will be suspended. However, we have not yet received any official documents,” the Director of the National Anti-Doping Agency said.
