Belarus withdraws from 2018 Silk Way Rally

MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) – Belarus' MAZ-SPORTauto team has made a decision to withdraw from the 2018 Silk Way Rally, BelTA informs.

During the third stage of the competition the organizers introduced adjustments in the race and hence provided an unsound advantage to certain participants of the race and caused extra time loss to MAZ-SPORTauto. The situation affected the results of the third stage and the position of the crews in the overall standings. According to the Belarusian participants of the rally, the organizers violated the principles of fair competition. Thus, the MAZ-SPORTauto team decided to end its participation in the Silk Way Rally 2018.

This time taking part in the 2018 Silk Way Rally were four Belarusian crews. Sergei Vyazovich's MAZ crew made it into the top five after the second stage. This year the 2018 Silk Way Rally covers the territory of Russia only. Overall length is 5,948km. The race started in Astrakhan and will end in Moscow. The obstacles on the route include mountainous terrain, water channels, canyons, and dunes. The race features around 20 truck crews. Last year, all Belarusian crews entered the top 10 in the overall standings.
