Belarus wins 22 medals at 2018 FISU World University Championships

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes won 22 medals at the 2018 FISU World University Canoe Sprint Championships in Szolnok, Hungary, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Center of Physical Education and Sports for Pupils and Students.

Gold medals were clinched by Natalya Trukhanovich and Irina Vikhruk who won C2 500m and C2 200m events.

Champion titles were also claimed by Nikita Merguryev (C1 200m), Ruslan Sazanovets, Maksim Krysko, Denis Potapenko, Grigory Maisyuk (C4 200m), Ivan Tsuranov (K1 200m), and also Aleksei Misyuchenko, Kirill Nikitin, Ivan Kupriyenko and Ilya Fedorenko (K4 1000m).

Belarus also won seven silver and nine bronze medals. Belarus placed second in the medal table, behind Hungary with 11 gold, five silver and four bronze medals.

The 2020 FISU World University Canoe Sprint Championships will take place in Zaslavl, Belarus. The 2014 edition was held in Belarus, too. Back then the Belarusian athletes won 20 medals. Belarus has been taking part in the world canoe and kayak championships since 2008.
