Belarus win 4 medals at 2nd European Games on day six

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Belarus won four medals, including one gold, on day six of the 2nd European Games in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Volha Khudzenka and Maryna Litvinchuk won the Women's K2 500m gold at Zaslavl Regatta Course.

The canoe sprint competitions are underway as part of the 2nd European Games in Zaslavl Regatta Course.

Aleh Yurenia added the Men's K1 1000m bronze to Belarus' medal haul.

Aleh Yurenia finished +1.355 second behind the frontrunner. Hungary's Balint Kopasz won gold. Fernando Pimenta of Portugal came second.

“I am happy with my performance. I do not get on the podium in the K1 1000m events very often. I needed to show my best,” the athlete said.

Yury Shcherbatsevich secured the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions silver.

The Belarusian finished third in the qualifying round. In the final, Yury Shcherbatsevich fought for gold against Russia's Sergey Kamenskiy, yet landed second. Bronze went to Istvan Peni of Hungary.

Freestyle wrestler Ali Shabanau claimed the 86kg silver.

Belarus goes second in the overall medal standings with 45 (15 gold, 11 silver, 19 bronze) medals at the Minsk European Games. Russia tops the medal table with 63 (28, 15, 20) medals. Georgia is third with 22 (6, 6, 10) medals. Belarus won 43 (10, 11, 22) medals at the 1st European Games 2015 in Baku.
