Belarus' Vadim Streltsov wins world weightlifting title

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarusian weightlifter Vadim Streltsov claimed the 94kg gold at the ongoing 2015 IWF World Weightlifting Championship in Houston, the United States, BelTA informs.

Vadim Streltsov lifted 175kg in the snatch to rank sixth early in the standings. His subsequent 230kg clean and jerk and the overall total of 405kg brought him gold and the world champion title. Second was Almas Uteshov of Kazakhstan who lifted a total of 402kg (172kg+230kg). Bronze went to fellow Kazakhstani Zhassulan Kydyrbaev with a combined total of 399kg (178kg+221kg).

Fellow Belarusian Alexander Venskel achieved 178kg in the snatch and 220kg in the clean and jerk to finish one step from the podium.

In the women's 69kg weight division Dina Sazanovets placed 7th with the result of 244kg (110kg+134kg). Olympic bronze medalist Marina Shkermankova finished 9th with the overall total of 241kg (108kg+133kg).

The competitions in Houston will continue on 27 November with the men's -105kg event, where Belarus will be represented by Alexander Bersanov. Darya Naumova will represent Belarus colors at the women's -75kg event.
