MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Belarus will field a 26-strong team for the European Aquatics Championships that get underway in Glasgow, UK, on 3 August, BelTA has learned.
Belarus' swimming team includes 13 athletes: Gregory Pekarsky (50m butterfly), Yuliya Khitraya (50m freestyle), Yevgeny Tsurkin (50m, 100m, 200m butterfly) Egor Dodolev (50m butterfly), Viktor Staselovich (50m, 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly), Ilya Shimonovich (50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke, Nikita Tsmyg (50m, 100m, 200m backstroke), Viktor Krasochko (50m, 100m freestyle), Anastasia Kuleshova (50m, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle), Alina Zmushko (50m breaststroke), Anton Latkin (50m, 100m freestyle), Anastasia Koryakovskaya (50m freestyle) and Maksim Delendik (50m backstroke).
Several medal hopefuls are skipping the championships. 15-year-old girl Anastasia Shkurdai from Brest decided to compete only in junior tournaments this season. Three-time Olympic medalist Aleksandra Gerasimenya declared she is pregnant while Pavel Sankovich will stay home due to family reasons.
Belarus' synchronized swimming team includes eight athletes: Irina Limanovskaya, Veronika Esipovich, Alexandra Bichun, Anastasia Novoselova, Vera Butsel, Zalina Sanakoyeva, Valeria Volosach, Anastasia Shkuleva.
Belarus' diving team features: Vadim Kaptur, Aelxander Molchan, Yuri Nevzorov, Artem Borovsky and Elena Khamulkina.
In the summer of 2018 Glasgow and Berlin will host the inaugural European Championships, an exciting new multi-sport event bringing together some of the continent's leading sports. Glasgow and Scotland will host Aquatics, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon while Berlin will host Athletics.
To be staged every four years starting in August 2018, the European Championships will be a new highlight on the global sporting calendar. This year the events will draw more than 4,500 athletes from 52 countries who will compete for 186 sets of medals.
