Belarus to seek compensation for ban on canoe and kayak teams

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – Belarus will claim moral damages for the one-year suspension on Belarus' senior men's canoe and kayak teams for all international competitions, Secretary General of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee Anatoly Kotov said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV Channel on 23 January, BelTA has learned.

“The ban on the canoe and kayak teams, including coaches, medical staff and entourage has been overturned. We will file a claim with the court in Switzerland for compensation for moral damages that our team suffered as a result of the suspension from the Olympic games and ungrounded disqualification from training and international competitions for almost half a year,” Anatoly Kotov noted.

The Belarusian side will also claim compensation for the expenses incurred over the four years of preparing the team for the Olympics.

BelTA reporter earlier that on 23 January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the one-year suspension imposed on Belarus' senior men's canoe and kayak teams by the ICF Executive Committee due to alleged multiple anti-doping rule violations.
