Belarus to play Netherlands in Fed Cup World Group

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Croatia's Zagreb hosted a draw ceremony for the 2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

In the first round of the elite division, World Group, Belarus will host the Netherlands on 11-12 February 2017. The teams last contested a Fed Cup tie in Europe/Africa Zone Group I in 2014, with the Dutch celebrating a 2-0 win. Now Belarus go 8th in the ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking, while the Netherlands are ranked 6th.

Belarus has clinched two road victories this season: beating Canada 3-2 in Quebec in the Fed Cup World Group II and taking a 3-2 win over Russia in Moscow on 16-17 April 2016. The Netherlands at first took a 3-1 win over Russia and then lost to France 2-3. The 2016 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final between France and Czech Republic will take place in Strasbourg, France on 12-13 November.

Three more games are scheduled for February 2017: the Czech Republic vs Spain, the United States vs Germany, Switzerland vs France.
