Belarus to host 2022 World Chess Olympiad

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Belarus will host the 2022 World Chess Olympiad. The decision was taken at the FIDE General Assembly in Batumi, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' bid was supported by the majority of the General Assembly participants. Belarus won the right to host the tournament over South Korea and Tunisia.

The country's presentation in Batumi was attended by Belarus' Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk. He guaranteed the World Chess Federation the organization of the Olympiad in compliance with all the necessary requirements.

The 2020 World Chess Olympiad will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

In the coming years Belarus is going to host a number of big international sport events: the 2nd European Games in 2019, the 2021 IIHF World Championship and the 2022 World Chess Olympiad.
